Sherlock Holmes and the Seven Dwarfs is an eight-part family series that was first broadcast on the afternoon program of ARD in May and June 1992 .

Chief Detective Hans Holms is retiring and is looking forward to a peaceful retirement at the side of his girlfriend Helene. But shortly afterwards it gets hectic: Hans' daughter Heidemarie unceremoniously accommodates the grandchildren Anne and Martin with him and he gets a visit from fairy tale land. The seven dwarfs ask Hans for help because Snow White was kidnapped. The farewell present from the police colleagues, an armchair, proves to be an entrance into the fairy tale world with the help of a magic spell ( "Right hand on the left knob, the fairyland opens up." ). From then on, Hans and his grandchildren have to face dangerous adventures.

The series was a co-production of Mitteldeutscher and Norddeutscher Rundfunk and Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg . The broadcasts took place on Sundays with the exception of the fifth episode, which was broadcast on Whit Monday.

In 1995 the eight parts were cut into a 90-minute film version. Both this compilation and the series have been repeated more often in the past, including in KiKa . In 2011 the eight parts appeared on DVD.

In 1993 Sherlock Holmes and the Seven Dwarfs received the Golden Sparrow award in the "Series" category. The word of Holms' success got around and so more and more fairy tale characters appear in his house to ask for his help.
