Sherman is a city in the state of Texas in the United States . The city is located north of Dallas and not far from the state of Oklahoma . It is the administrative seat of Grayson County .

history

In 1846 the Commissioners of Grayson County, also created in the same year, founded the place. This happened about four miles west of today's city center. Due to the shortage of water and wood, the city was moved to its current location in 1848.

The city is named after General Sidney Sherman , a major leader of the Texas Army during the Texan War of Independence .

Olive Oatman , who was abducted by Indians as a child, lived and died in Sherman .

Sherman is served by two United States highways , US Highway 75 , which runs in north-south direction, and US Highway 82, which runs in east-west direction .

Sherman Municipal Airport ( ICAO : KSWI) is located southeast of the urban area .
