Sherman Daniel Chambers (born May 9, 1881 in Sheffield , Lorain County , Ohio , † January 6, 1979 in West Lafayette , Tippecanoe County , Indiana ) was an American engineer .

Life

Family and education

Born in Village Sheffield in the US state of Ohio, Sherman Daniel Chambers, son of Thomas William Chambers and Mary Agnes Conley Chambers, turned to engineering at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea after attending public schools in 1904 he the degree of Bachelor of Science , 1911, a Master of Science . He continued his studies at Lehigh University in Bethlehem , Pennsylvania , in 1918 he graduated as a civil engineer .

The Presbyterian baptized Sherman Daniel Chambers married on August 4, 1909 in Fargo , North Dakota Helen Grace Ware (1887-1980). The marriage was the son of David Ware. Sherman Daniel Chambers died in January 1979 at the old age of 97. He found his final resting place in Grand View Cemetery in West Lafayette.

Professional background

Sherman Daniel Chambers received in 1909 a position as an instructor in mathematics at the University of Maine near Bangor in the village of Orono, which he held until 1912. After various activities that followed, he switched to Lehigh University in 1916, also as an instructor in mathematics, and left in 1918. After various professional functions, Sherman Daniel Chambers followed the call in 1921 as Assistant Professor of Engineering Mechanics at the School of Engineering at Purdue University in West Lafayette, in 1925 he was appointed Associate Professor , in 1936 Full Professor , in 1951 he retired adopted. He then taught at Valparaiso University until 1959 .

The Masonic Sherman Daniel Chambers, one of the leading engineering scientists in the United States of his time, was an elected member of the Acacia Fraternity (Ακακία) and the National Honor Society of Scabbard and Blade.
