Shetland is a constituency for the Scottish Parliament . It was introduced in 1999 as one of eight constituencies in the Highlands and Islands electoral region , which was redesigned as part of the constituency revision in 2011. It includes the Shetland Islands and sends one MP.
The constituency extends over an area of 1,466.7 km 2 . In the 2011 census survey, a total of 23,167 people lived within its borders. This makes Shetland the second most populous constituency for the Scottish Parliament.
