Shigeru Aburaya

Shigeru Aburaya ( Japanese 油 谷 繁 , Aburaya Shigeru ; born February 8, 1977 in Nagato , Yamaguchi Prefecture ) is a Japanese long-distance runner who specializes in marathon distance .

Career

In his debut at the Biwa Lake Marathon 2000, he finished seventh in 2:10:48 h. In the following year he improved to third place in the same place with a personal best of 2:07:52 h. As the best Japanese overall, he also secured the national championship title in the marathon.

At the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton, Aburaya finished fifth in 2:14:07 h. In 2003 he finished second in the Tokyo International Men's Marathon in 2:09:30 h. In the same year he reached fifth place again at the World Athletics Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis in 2:09:26 h. Aburaya also ran into fifth place in 2:13:11 h in the marathon of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

In 2006 he reached 13th place in the London Marathon in 2:14:49 h. At the Fukuoka Marathon he was fifth (2:10:30 h) in 2007 and tenth (2:13:48 h) in 2008.

Shigeru Aburaya is 1.63 m tall and has a competition weight of 51 kg. He starts for the company team of the energy supplier Chūgoku Denryoku .
