Sibylle Kessal-Wulf

Sibylle Kessal-Wulf (born November 25, 1958 in Stadthagen ) is a German lawyer . She has been a judge at the Federal Constitutional Court since December 2011 and was previously the presiding judge at the Federal Court of Justice .

Life

Sybille Kessal-Wulf studied law at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel from 1977 . In 1982 she passed her first state examination and 1985 her second state examination. She then began her judicial career in 1985 in Schleswig-Holstein as a trial reporter at the Flensburg District and Regional Court . In 1988 she became a judge at the Flensburg District Court. After a secondment to the Schleswig-Holstein Higher Regional Court , she became a judge at the Higher Regional Court in 1992. There she was a member of the 5th Civil Senate of the Higher Regional Court, which was responsible for company , banking and stock exchange law. While working as a judge at the Higher Regional Court , she did her doctorate in 1995 on the subject of internal associations: using the example of public company, franchising, employee participation and company association at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel with Dieter Reuter . On May 2, 2001, she began her service as a judge at the Federal Court of Justice and was a member of the 4th Civil Senate of the Federal Court of Justice , which is responsible for insurance and inheritance law . In addition to her work in the 4th Senate, she was also involved in other Senates of the Federal Court of Justice in connection with issues of foreclosure and was an assessor in the notary's senate. In 2010 she became deputy chairwoman of the notary's senate. In February 2011 she was given the chairmanship of the IV Civil Senate. In addition, she took over the chairmanship of the Senate for patent attorney matters and the deputy chairmanship of the Senate for legal matters .

In November 2011 it became known that the CDU and CSU were proposing Sybille Kessal-Wulf as the successor to the outgoing constitutional judge Rudolf Mellinghoff . On November 25, 2011, it was then the Federal Council elected judge of the Constitutional Court. On December 19, 2011, Kessal-Wulf was sworn in for her new office. She is a member of the Second Senate of the Federal Constitutional Court.
