The IV Civil Senate is a panel of the Federal Court of Justice . It is one of 13 senates that deal with civil matters.

He is mainly responsible for inheritance law and insurance contract law.

Jurisdiction

According to the BGH's business distribution plan (as of 2018), the IV Civil Senate is responsible for:

  1. legal disputes over inheritance law, including inheritance purchases, unless the Fifth Civil Senate is responsible;
  2. the legal disputes about insurance relationships , as far as they are not the VI. Civil Senate (No. 5 c) are assigned;
  3. the decisions of the Federal Court of Justice pursuant to Section 23 (1), Section 29 (1) EGGVG on the legality of the orders, orders or other measures taken by the judicial authorities to regulate individual matters in the field of civil law including commercial law, civil litigation and the voluntary jurisdiction are met;
  4. Legal complaints according to § 70 FamFG in
    1. Estate and division matters that do not exclusively or predominantly concern the right of succession to agricultural land that deviates from general law, the settlement of common property after the end of the marital, civil partnership or continued community of property or certificates to be issued,
    2. Issues relating to the submission of probate creditors.
