Ulrich Maidowski

Ulrich Maidowski (born October 13, 1958 in Walsrode ) is a German lawyer , former judge at the Federal Administrative Court and since 2014 a judge at the Federal Constitutional Court .

Life

Childhood and legal education

Maidowski is the son of a teacher. He spent his childhood from the age of five in Tokyo , where his father taught German, Latin and Greek at the German School . He later moved to Kabul with his parents . When Shah Mohammed Sahir was overthrown after a coup in 1973, the family was on vacation. She did not return to Afghanistan , but settled in Hanover .

From 1978 he studied law and philosophy at the University of Tübingen and in Aix-en-Provence . After passing the first state examination in 1985, he worked briefly in 1987 as a research assistant with Christian Pestalozza at the Institute for Constitutional Law at the Free University of Berlin . In 1988 he did his doctorate at his alma mater in Tübingen on Reverse Discrimination: Quota Regulations for the Advancement of Women in the Public Service and in Political Parties . From 1987 to 1990 he completed his legal clerkship in the district of the Higher Regional Court in Berlin .

Careers in administrative justice

After the second exam, he joined the judicial service of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in September 1990 and became a judge at the Administrative Court of Aachen . From December 1995 he was seconded to the Federal Administrative Court as a research assistant for two years . In 1998 he was seconded to the Higher Administrative Court for the State of Brandenburg for four months .

In December 1999 he was appointed judge at the Higher Administrative Court for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . Here he last sat in the 10th Senate, which dealt with building law and monument protection . He also worked part-time in the building land senates of various higher regional courts , namely from February 2000 to December 2005 at the OLG Cologne and as a deputy member at the OLG Düsseldorf and from July 2006 at the OLG Hamm .

On July 1, 2009, he was appointed judge at the Federal Administrative Court. There he was initially a member of the 2nd Revision Senate , which deals with civil service law. After a while he moved to the 1st and 10th Revision Senate , which are responsible for immigration law and asylum law. At the same time he was responsible at the Federal Administrative Court for liaising with foreign offices and for looking after foreign visitors.

Judge of the Federal Constitutional Court

On July 3, 2014, at the suggestion of the SPD , of which he is not a member, he was elected by the election committee of the German Bundestag to succeed Michael Gerhardt in the 2nd Senate of the Federal Constitutional Court. He took office on July 15, 2014.

Maidowski is married to a lawyer and has four children.
