Sidney Arodin

Sidney Arodin (* 29. March 1901 in Westwego , Louisiana as Sidney Arnondrin ; † 6. February 1948 in New Orleans ) was an American jazz - clarinetist and composer of oldtime jazz and swing .

Sidney Arodin began playing the clarinet at the age of 15 and in 1929 participated with the Jones & Collins Astoria Hot Eight on the first records recorded in New Orleans by white and African American musicians . He is considered the composer of the jazz standard " Lazy River " (with Hoagy Carmichael ), although he never recorded the song himself. He began his career on the Mississippi River steamers, then went to New York City and played with Johnny Stein's New Orleans Jazz Band and with Jimmy Durante from 1922 to 1925 . He later returned to the south of the USA, where he worked with Wingy Manone and Sharkey Bonano , among others . In the 1930s he was a member of Louis Prima’s band and a revival version of the New Orleans Rhythm Kings .
