Seven wonders of Ukraine
The Seven Wonders of Ukraine ( Ukrainian Сім чудес України ) are a selection of seven historically and culturally significant architectural monuments in Ukraine that were selected in a competition in July 2007. It was the first of its kind. Subsequently, the Seven Natural Wonders of Ukraine , the Seven Wonderful Ways of Ukraine and the Seven Wonderful Castles of Ukraine were selected. All nominated locations are under monument protection at least at regional level and can be used for tourism .
After a pre-selection by the responsible authorities, the list of candidates was reduced by an expert committee. Anyone on the Internet could participate in the final selection.
history
The initiative for the selection came from Mykola Tomenko , one of the deputy chairmen of the Verkhovna Rada , who under the motto Piznai Ukrainu! (Eng. Discover Ukraine ) started. This was preceded by similar competitions, all of which were regionally limited.
In 2008, the Seven Natural Wonders of Ukraine were selected according to the same mode. Here, too, the initiative came from Mykola Tomenko.
