selection
The Seven Natural Wonders of Ukraine were selected on August 26, 2008. The voting consisted of two parts:
- A committee of experts made a pre-selection
- In the second stage, every Internet user could choose his seven favorites.
Originally, the local and regional authorities ( oblast ) compiled a list of one thousand possible candidates. A panel of experts with 100 members, including cultural scientists, historians and tourism experts, drew up a list of 21 proposals from which a selection could be made on the Internet.
The internet voting from the 21 candidates started on July 7th, 2008 on the program website. A total of around 77,000 Internet users took part in the campaign. The voting was closed on August 26, 2008 and the results were announced on the same day. The entire campaign was initiated in May 2007 by Mykola Tomenko , a member of the Verkhovna Rada .
