Siegfried Luf von Kleve called von Kervenheim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Siegfried Luf von Kleve called von Kervenheim († August 11, 1340 or August 11, 1342 ) was provost of the cathedral in the prince-bishopric of Münster .

Life

Origin and family

Siegfried grew up as the son of the nobleman Dietrich Luf von Kleve and Elisabeth von Virneburg in an ancient family of counts in the county of Kleve . His sister Agnes was married to Wikbold von Lohn , Katharina to Walram von Kessel , his brother Johannes was cathedral provost and Dietrich Graf von Hülchrath.

Career and work

He worked as a canon in Xanten in 1313 and followed his brother Johannes after his death in 1314 as provost in Beckum and St. Ludgeri in Münster . He was archdeacon in Beckum, Gildehaus, Bentheim, Nienborg and Saerbeck. When Bishop Ludwig was imprisoned in the Brandenburg region, Siegfried took the oath as administrator. He can only be verified as provost of the cathedral on April 3, 1327. However, he probably entered this office as early as 1326, after the death of his predecessor Konrad von der Mark . There were discrepancies in the award of the office. In the view of the cathedral chapter, Siegfried was wrongly appointed by Bishop Ludwig. However, it refrained from returning the offices that had been conferred, as he was a close relative of the bishop and his brother Johann had lost his life fighting for the Münster monastery. His successor Everhard of the mark was in 1339 provost, so Siegfried office abandoned has, because he died either on August 11, 1340 or 1342nd
