Siegfried Remertz

Siegfried Remertz (born August 6, 1891 in Peine ; † October 8, 1945 in the special camp Neubrandenburg-Fünfeichen ; full name: Siegfried Gustav Hermann Remertz ) was a German local politician and deputy mayor of Greifswald .

Siegfried Remertz attended high schools in Kiel and Stargard / Pomerania ; from 19 he studied law and political science at the universities of Freiburg / Br., Berlin, Munich and Halle. 1919 PhD jur. in Greifswald. 1920 second state examination in law at the University of Berlin. He worked as an assessor in Kappeln, Waldenburg, Grünberg and Graefenhainichen.

From 1927 to 1945 Remertz was councilor of the city of Greifswald and from 1936 to 1945 deputy mayor, and in April 1945 he was acting mayor . Since 1939 he was also the Swedish Vice Consul.

After Lord Mayor Dr. Rickels, he was instrumental in the surrender of the city of Greifswald to the Soviet Army without a fight. Together with Mayor Richard Schmidt , he was arrested by the Soviet occupation forces on May 6, 1945 and interned in the special camp Fünfeichen in Neubrandenburg , where he perished a short time later.
