The Siemens-Siedlung is a housing estate in Munich . It is registered as an architectural monument in the Bavarian list of monuments.

location

The settlement is located in Munich's Obersendling district in district 19 . In the south the settlement borders on Boschetsrieder Straße, in the north on the Südpark .

history

The settlement was planned in the early 1950s by the Cologne architect Emil Freymuth . In southern Germany , the Siemens estate was the first housing estate with high-rise buildings. It was built in 1952 as a housing estate for members of the Siemens company .

By mid-2008, the settlement had been refurbished in accordance with energy and monument protection aspects, and the planning and execution has received many awards from the construction and housing industry. At the beginning of 2009, Siemens sold its entire housing stock, including the Siemens housing estate in Munich-Obersendling, to a consortium consisting of Wohnbau GmbH (Bonn), GBW Group (Munich) and Volkswohnung GmbH (Karlsruhe).

description

The most striking structures are two 17-storey high -rise buildings , which are called “star houses”, as three wings branch off from a central section in a star shape. A total of 13 buildings with a total of 528 apartments were built. In addition to the star high-rise buildings, there are buildings of different heights, including two-story row houses and a twelve-story residential building in the shape of a disc. A row of shops separates the quarter, which is otherwise free of through traffic, from the busy Boschetsrieder Straße. In addition to being equipped with garbage chutes and intercom systems, it was a novelty that all apartments had a balcony or loggia . When designing the system, care was taken to ensure that as many apartments as possible had the bedrooms facing east or north, while the living rooms were facing south or west.

The bronze sculpture “Der Schauende” by Joachim Berthold has stood in front of the disc-shaped residential high-rise since 1955 .

A third star house, originally planned but not built, was built in 2005/2006 at Leo-Graetz-Straße 16. Its design is based on that of the two apartment towers from the 1950s, but clearly shows the signature of the planning office Otto Steidle . This third star house received the City of Munich Prize for Cityscape Maintenance in 2008 .
