Sigurður Ragnar Eyjólfsson

Sigurður Ragnar Eyjólfsson (born December 1, 1973 ) is an Icelandic football coach and former football player . He coached the Icelandic women's national team from 2007 to 2013 .

Eyjólfsson began his career in the youth of KR Reykjavík . In 1994 he won the Icelandic Cup with this club. A year later he went to the United States to study sports science at the University of North Carolina . In 1998 he returned to Iceland and played for ÍA Akranes before moving to English club Walsall a year later . With this club he rose to the second English division , where he contributed a goal in the decisive 3-1 win over Oldham Athletic . After a stint at Chester City , he moved to Belgium to KRC Harelbeke before returning to Iceland to KR Reykjavík and becoming Icelandic champion twice. He ended his active career in 2005 with ÌA Akranes.

Eyjólfsson has worked as technical director for the Icelandic Football Association since 2002. In January 2007 he took over the Icelandic women's national team and led them to the 2009 European Championships in Finland . After the EM 2013 , in which Iceland reached the quarter-finals, he left his post to take on a new challenge.

In November 2017, he replaced Bruno Bini as head coach of the Chinese women's national team . Former national player Sun Wen was appointed as his assistant .
