Sigurd Tesche

Sigurd Tesche (born April 24, 1940 in Haan ; † January 12, 2020 in Leichlingen - Witzhelden , Rhineland ) was a German documentary filmmaker who is best known for his underwater documentaries.

Life

Tesche grew up in Solingen - Schaberg near the Müngstener Bridge . After graduating from high school, he studied photography, graphics and design for three years at the technical college for art and design in Solingen and with Arthur Wasserloos (1909–2001) in Wuppertal. He then continued his training with an internship with the cameraman and advertising film producer Peter Conrad (from Cobrafilm) and with Leo Bermel, business editor at Solinger Tageblatt . In 1965 he passed his master photographer examination with a diploma. Influenced by Hans Hass , Tesche founded his own company Tesche Dokumentarfilm-Produktion in Leichlingen in 1967 . In the following years, more than 600 films were made, which deal with sharks, octopuses, seahorses and other marine animals. Tesche shot some contributions for the NDR series Expeditions into the Animal Kingdom and for the VOX series Tierzeit .

Tesche's daughter Natali Tesche-Ricciardi (* 1971), born in Leichlingen, has also been working as a documentary filmmaker since 2003.

In 2018, Tesche was nominated for the audience award of the environmental media award of the Deutsche Umwelthilfe for his work on the BBC production The Blue Planet .

From the 1970s Tesche lived in the Witzhelden district of Leichlingen in the Rhineland. He died at the age of 79 in January 2020 and was buried on January 22, 2020 in the Witzhelden cemetery.
