Silke Bachmann (born February 18, 1977 in Bozen , South Tyrol ) is a former Italian ski racer . The South Tyrolean is three-time Italian runner-up and was a member of the Italian national ski team from 1995 to 2005.

biography

After her jump into the national team, Bachmann first started in the European Cup . In the World Cup she made her debut on January 3, 1997 in the giant slalom in Maribor , where she immediately won her first points with 19th place. For the time being she only came to a few other World Cup appearances and she mainly started in the European Cup. In the 1998/99 season she was able to rank among the top ten in each of the eight giant slaloms and win one of them, placing her in second place in the discipline and seventh place in the overall European Cup.

With this she was promoted to the Italian A-squad and from the 1999/2000 season she started regularly in the World Cup. This winter she managed to catch up with the extended world elite with several good results. With a third place in the giant slalom of Serre Chevalier and four other top 10 results, she reached twelfth place in the giant slalom World Cup. In the next few years, however, she was unable to repeat these results. Although she was regularly in the points, she only made it into the top 10 once more. In the European Cup she got several podium places.

Bachmann took part in the World Ski Championships twice: at the 2001 World Championships in St. Anton am Arlberg she was 14th in the giant slalom, she could not finish the slalom, and at the 2003 World Championships in St. Moritz she was 22nd in the giant slalom. In 2002 she started at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and came in 16th in giant slalom and 18th in slalom.

Her athletic development was repeatedly hampered by serious injuries. Within a few years she had to deal with three tears in the cruciate ligament . Before the start of the 2005/06 season, she missed the team's internal performance record for the Italian World Cup team and was only used in European Cup and FIS races . She contested her last race in January 2006.
