Silke Gorldt

Silke Gorldt (born September 22, 1976 in Düsseldorf ; † June 7, 2002 in Zingst ) was a German kitesurfer .

life and career

After primary school in Düsseldorf, Silke Gorldt moved to Ruhpolding in 1987 . She first attended the grammar school in Traunstein and later the grammar school Landschulheim Schloss Ising , where she graduated from high school in 1998. She then completed an internship at Radio Chiemgau and then began studying business administration at the University of Nuremberg . She also had a traineeship at the Funkhaus Nürnberg , as she later wanted to work as a journalist.

During a trip to Tarifa in Andalusia in 1999 , Gorldt got to know the trend sport kitesurfing, which from then on determined her life. From autumn 2000 she lived in Varel because she had better training conditions there. She continued her studies with a new focus on political science and history at the University of Oldenburg . The coastal town of Hooksiel became their new training ground. From 2000 to 2002 she was traveling around the globe to take part in kite competitions or e.g. B. to train in Hawaii . In 2001 she became German champion and third in the PKRA World Cup.

Gorldt died on June 7, 2002 on Zingst during the Fischland-Darß tour when they dragged two entangled kite kites to death in a tragic accident. Organizers and members of Gorldt set up the Silke Gorldt Foundation a few days after her death .
