Silsbee is a city in Hardin County , Texas , United States . It lies at the intersection of US Highway 96 and State Highway 327 . It is part of the Beaumont-Port Arthur Metropolitan Statistical Area .

historical development
Silsbee was first assigned to Mill Town when the place was first reached in 1894 by the Gulf, Beaumont, and Kansas City Railway . The city was then renamed Silsbee in reference to Nathaniel D. Silsbee , a Boston , Massachusetts investor who helped raise funds for the railroad. The railroad was a project by John Henry Kirby, who soon established the Kirby Lumber Company in the city. This company soon became the largest employer in town and strengthened Silsbee's economy from the start.
