geography
The summit ridge of the Silver Star consists of a long ridge of peaks (the "Wine Spiers") that lead to the main summit. The mountain is perceived as a steep, rugged wall from Highway 20. The glaciers on the north side reach just below the ridge line. The easiest ascent is via the moderately glaciated north side over Silver Star Creek.
Silver Star Mountain stands in the catchment area of the Methow River , which drains into the Lake Pateros reservoir on the Columbia River formed by the Wells Dam . The west and north sides of the Silver Star drain into the Early Winters Creek, then into the Methow River. The southeast side drains into Cedar Creek, then into Early Winters Creek.
