Silvia Bender (born March 9, 1970 in Bonn ) is a German agricultural scientist with a focus on nature conservation and landscape ecology as well as a political officer ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). Since November 2019 she has been State Secretary in the Ministry for Agriculture, Environment and Climate Protection of the State of Brandenburg .

Life

Bender grew up in Andernach . In 1990 she began studying agricultural sciences with a focus on nature conservation and landscape ecology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , which she completed with an investigation into the flora and fauna of the Michelsbach valley in the Eifel , including the development of an integrated utilization concept for this area Graduated in agricultural engineering. As a result, she coordinated the project “Living Nature through Agriculture” at the Institute for Agricultural Botany and from 1998 to 2000 she was assistant to the management at Bioland Baden-Württemberg.

Further activities in cultivation associations followed until 2006 . In 2005 she joined the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party and in 2006 became a consultant for rural areas, agriculture and animal welfare in the Bundestag parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . In 2014, Bender became head of the Department for the Environment, Energy, Food and Forests Rhineland-Palatinate at the Representation of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in Berlin . In 2017 she became head of the biodiversity department at the Federation for Environment and Nature Conservation Germany , of which she is a member.

In November 2019, as part of the formation of the Woidke III cabinet, Minister Axel Vogel appointed Bender as State Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Climate Protection of the State of Brandenburg.

Silvia Bender lives in Berlin and is the mother of two sons.
