Silvia Schmitt (born April 19, 1962 in Kempten (Allgäu) ) is a former German handball player . The left-hander mostly played in the right back space .

Silivia Schmitt played 245 international matches for Germany , in which she scored 751 goals. She took part in the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1992 and reached fourth place with her team. At the end of 1998, at the age of 36, she made her last comeback for the national team. In the same year she was voted handball woman of the year . After the European Championship in 1999 in the Netherlands, she then gave her farewell game.

As a trainer - Silvia Schmitt has the B license - she and Dago Leukefeld were responsible for the German women's handball team from February 1, 2001. After the team only achieved a disappointing 9th place at the 2000 European Championships , they ended this engagement in March 2001 again. She last played in the 2004/05 season at the age of 42 for one season with the then second division club HSG Kleenheim .

The trained retail saleswoman works as a product manager.
