Silvio Schirrmeister (born December 7, 1988 in Neubrandenburg ) is a former German hurdle sprinter .

Silvio Schirrmeister starts over 400 meter hurdles. Until 2008 he was active for his home club SC Neubrandenburg , in 2009 and 2010 for the Dresdner SC 1898 and since 2011 for the LAC Erdgas Chemnitz . The banker is trained by Ulf Müller. At first he was successful as a junior athlete. In 2007 he won the title at the European Junior Championships in Hengelo and fifth at the 2009 U23 European Championships in Kaunas . In 2007 he won the national title over 400 meters at the indoor youth championships, in 2009 he was junior champion over 400 meters hurdles.

Schirrmeister has started with men since 2010. At the German championships in 2010 he was runner-up behind Georg Fleischhauer , and at the European team championships in Bergen he won the bronze medal with the German team. Because of his training, 2011 was less successful. He lost his place for the 2012 European Championships in Helsinki to Tobias Giehl due to a fall in a test competition shortly before the continental championships in Dresden . Nevertheless, he increased his personal best in a competition in Regensburg to 49.21 s. He undercut the German Olympic standard by nine hundredths of a second and was nominated for the 2012 Olympic Games in London , where he was eliminated in fourth place in 50.21 s.

At the European Athletics Team Championships in 2013, Schirrmeister won a new personal best of 49.15 s, beating world champion David Greene . Two weeks later he became German champion .

On September 8, 2015, he announced his immediate departure from competitive sports. He justified this with a harsh criticism of the dual career , which he described as "the most terrible creature that German sport has created" .

Schirrmeister works as a Sparkasse branch manager in Dresden.
