Simon-Victor Tonyé Bakot

Simon-Victor Tonyé Bakot (born March 24, 1947 in Eséka , Cameroon ) is a Cameroonian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Yaoundé .

Life

Tonye Bakot received on 15 July 1973, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On January 26, 1987 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To auxiliary bishop in Douala and titular bishop of Siminina . The Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Gabon , Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea , Archbishop Donato Squicciarini , donated him and Gabriel Simo , who was appointed auxiliary bishop with him , episcopal ordination on April 26 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Simon Tonyé , Archbishop of Douala, and André Wouking , Bishop of Bafoussam .

Pope John Paul II called Simon-Victor Tonyé Bakot to be Bishop of Edéa on March 22, 1993 . On October 18, 2003, John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Yaoundé.

In early 2006, Tonyé Bakot criticized European countries for legitimizing homosexuality and supported an outing campaign against homosexuals by two Cameroonian tabloids.

On July 29, 2013, Pope Francis accepted his early resignation.
