The Archdiocese of Douala ( Latin Archidioecesis Dualaensis ) is a Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Douala in Cameroon .
history
Pope Pius XI founded the Apostolic Prefecture of Douala with the Breve Apostolicum munus on March 31, 1931 from cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate of Cameroon . On May 27, 1932, she was elevated to the rank of Apostolic Vicariate with the Bull Ut praefecturae .
With the bull Dum tantis on April 18, 1950, it was raised to the rank of diocese, which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Yaoundé as a suffragan diocese. With the Apostolic Constitution Eo magis catholica on March 18, 1982 it was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan Archdiocese.
It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

- March 22, 1993 to the Diocese of Edéa ;
- March 22, 1993 to the Diocese of Eséka .
