Jean Mbarga

Jean Mbarga (born May 18, 1956 in Ebomedzo , Cameroon ) is a Cameroonian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Yaoundé .

Life

Jean Mbarga studied first at the Seminary in Nkolbison and later in Strasbourg ( France ) and in Italy at the Accademia Alfonsiana , where he obtained a doctorate in moral theology and specialized in bioethics .

He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Yaoundé on December 5, 1981 . He then held the following offices: parish vicar (1982–1983); Chaplain of the Lay Apostolate (1984–1985). After studying in Rome (1985–1992) he was Regens of the Nkolbison Seminary (1992–2002), Diocese Economist (2002–2003), Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Yaoundé (2004) and Consultor of the Pontifical Councils for Culture (since 1998) and for the layman (since 2001).

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Ebolowa-Kribi in 2004 . The Apostolic Nuncio in Cameroon, Archbishop Eliseo Antonio Ariotti , donated his episcopal ordination on December 5th of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Yaoundé, Simon-Victor Tonyé Bakot , and the Bishop of Sangmélima , Raphaël Marie Ze . After the division of the diocese and the establishment of the diocese of Kribi on June 19, 2008, he remained Bishop of Ebolowa.

On July 29, 2013, Pope Francis also appointed him Apostolic Administrator and on October 31, 2014 Archbishop of Yaoundé.
