Sir Simon James Fraser , GCMG (born June 3, 1958 ) is a former British diplomat and government official who served as Permanent Undersecretary in the Department for Enterprise, Innovation and Skills between 2009 and 2010 and Permanent Undersecretary in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Skills from 2010 to 2015 Affairs of the Commonwealth of Nations was.

Life

Simon James Fraser, son of James Stuart Fraser and his wife Joan Fraser, completed a degree in Classical Studies at Corpus Christi College at the University of Cambridge after attending the renowned St Paul's School in London, which was founded in 1509, and obtained a Master of Arts (MA Classics). After joining the diplomatic service in 1979, he found employment at numerous missions abroad as well as in the Ministry of Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs ( Foreign and Commonwealth Office ) and served as Counselor for Political Affairs at the Embassy in France between 1999 and 2002 . From 2002 to 2004 he was Director, Strategy and Innovation and, in 2004, was briefly Head of the Middle East and North Africa Sub-Department in the Ministry of Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. He then served from 2004 to 2008 head of cabinet of Peter Mandelson , the EU - Commissioner for Trade and between 2008 and 2009 Head of the European and globalization (Director-General, Europe and Globalization) in the Ministry of Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. He was named Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in 2009 for his services .

In 2009 Fraser moved to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills , where he served as Permanent Under-Secretary, the highest government official in the ministry. He then returned to the Ministry of Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs in 2010, where he succeeded Peter Ricketts as Permanent Undersecretary of State and was also the highest government official of this Ministry. During this time he was beaten on June 15, 2013 to Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) and has since had the suffix "Sir". He held the post of Permanent Under-Secretary for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs until 2015, when Simon McDonald succeeded him. On December 31, 2015, he was also elevated to the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George (GCMG). After retiring from government service in 2015, he became a managing partner of Flint Global Ltd and is also vice chairman of the Chatham House think tank . He is also a trustee of the Patchwork Foundation founded by Harris Bokhari , a member of the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) .

Simon Fraser is married to Shireen Fraser and has two children.
