Simon Jones (born July 27, 1950 in Wiltshire , England ) is a British actor.

Life

Jones studied at Cambridge University , where he was a member of the Cambridge University Footlights Dramatic Club . Other prominent members of this club included John Cleese , Graham Chapman and Eric Idle of Monty Python, as well as Mark Wing-Davey and Douglas Adams .

He became friends with Adams, and when he in 1977 the Treaty establishing a BBC - radio drama series called The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy signed, he provided Jones already for the role of the main character Arthur Dent; Adams even stated in later interviews that he tailored the role specifically for Jones. After the 1978 radio play series, Jones also played Arthur Dent in the 1981 television series of the same name and in the sequels to the radio drama series broadcast by the BBC in 2004 and 2005 . Jones also made a cameo in the Hollywood adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy .

Jones has also played supporting roles in films such as Brazil , Green Card , The Miracle of Manhattan and Twelve Monkeys .
