Simon Leonhard von Haerlem (born December 5, 1701 in Hitzacker , † February 22, 1775 in Berlin ) was a German Oberdeichinspektor in the Kurmark . The draining and colonization of the Oderbruch is considered to be his most important achievement .

Life

His father Blasius v. Haerlem (born October 12, 1667 in Dordrecht ) had been Oberdeichgraf in Hitzacker since 1693.

Simon Leonhard von (or van) Haerlem became chief dike inspector in Lenzen (Elbe) . As early as 1732, he was called in as an expert on the current regulation of the Oder and Warthe . The Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler confirmed the calculations of v. Haerlems for straightening the Oder. On April 12, 1746, he was appointed War and Domain Council at the Kurmärkische Kammer. On December 5, 1748 he received the department for the general observation of hydraulic engineering in the Kurmark. In 1770 he was appointed senior building officer to the newly founded building department .
