Simon Peter Tileman , called Schenck or Tilemann-Schenck , (born July 23, 1601 in Lemgo ; † 1688 (other sources around 1667 or 1670)) was a German painter.

biography

Tileman was the son of a bailiff and painter Johann Tilemann of Count Simon VI zur Lippe . In 1614 the father, who had acquired Bremen citizenship in 1596, moved to Bremen with his five children after the death of his wife in Bremen , where Tileman grew up. He was trained as a painter. He traveled and painted in the Netherlands , the Rhineland , Bohemia and Italy . Around 1633 he settled down in Bremen again. He painted portraits here . In 1639 he lived in Utrecht and returned to Bremen in 1646. Here he married Barbara de Herlin, who came from a wealthy Flemish family. A number of other portraits were created by 1658. Only around 1670 did portraits of him become known again. It can be assumed that he died soon afterwards. The years after 1667, around 1668, around 1670 and 1688 are mentioned.

The merchant Hermann Friedrich Tileman (1684-1716) was his son.
