Simone Scatizzi

Simone Scatizzi (born March 26, 1931 in Prato , Tuscany , † August 27, 2010 in Florence , Tuscany) was an Italian theologian and Roman Catholic bishop of Pistoia .

Life

Simone Scatizzi entered the seminary of the Diocese of Prato and received his theological training after June 29, 1954 at the Cathedral of Prato , the ordination . He was the first secretary of Archbishop Pietro Fiordelli and later held various offices in the diocesan curia, most recently as vicar general.

Pope Paul VI In 1977 he appointed him bishop of the diocese of Fiesole, founded in the 1st century . He received his episcopal consecration on September 8, 1977 in the cathedral of Prato, the Bishop of Prato, Pietro Fiordelli; Co-consecrators were his predecessor, Bishop Antonio Bagnoli , and Archbishop Antonio Innocenti , secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments and later Cardinal to the Curia.

In 1981 Pope John Paul II appointed him bishop of the Diocese of Pistoia . Pope Benedict XVI granted his age-related resignation in 2006.

On June 24th, 2001 he was made honorary citizen of Pistoia by Mayor Renzo Berti .

In February 2010, Scatizzi pleaded in the context of homosexuality and the Roman Catholic Church that priests should refuse communion to gay and lesbian believers.
