Simple Aggression was an American power and thrash metal band from Independence , Kentucky that was formed in 1989 and disbanded around 1996.

history

The band was formed on October 1, 1989 in Independence, Kentucky. A short time later, the band relocated to Cincinnati . The group consisted of singer Doug Carter, guitarists James Carr and Darrin McKinney, bassist Dave Swart and drummer Kenny Soward. In 1990 a first, self-titled demo followed, which was followed by a second under the name Wizardry Knows No Bounds in 1991 . The debut album Formulations in Black followed in 1993. Eric Johns was the new singer on the second album. The sound carrier was produced in March 1996 by Jeff Higgins and was released under the name Gravity on Leviathan Records . Then the band broke up. On October 23, 2010 the band got together again and played a concert in Covington .

style

According to Allmusic, the band plays more than just ordinary Thrash Metal, as the groove of the songs was influenced by bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers . According to Martin Popoff in his book The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 3: The Nineties , the songs on Formulations in Black would be based on the works of Metallica and Anthrax and augmented by influences such as Gwar , Biohazard, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. In addition, tonal parallels to Clutch can be heard, even if this band was formed later. Formulations in Black is very different from its predecessor and has tonal similarities to Soundgarden . Popoff described the music as metal with grunge influences. Another big difference to the predecessor is the new singer Eric Johns. In the Metal Hammer interview with Henning Richter, singer Doug Carter stated the influences of the members as follows: “As a child I was into rap , later I tried my hand at breakdancing . Then came my Mötley Crüe phase, and then the harder things followed. Today we listen to everything we can get our hands on: Death Metal , Broadway musicals like ' Cats ' or ' Jesus Christ Superstar ', jazz or hardcore . At the beginning of our band we wrote a lot of stuff that was based on the early Slayers and Metallica, and you can still hear some of it today ”. According to Achim Karstens from Metal Hammer, the band on Formulations in Black play a mixture of power and thrash metal that was modern five years ago. According to Matthias Mineur from Metal Hammer , the band played slightly thrashy, traditional metal on the previous album, whereas Gravity sounds much more modern. Mineur assigned the album to Power Metal.
