Simple Twist of Fate is a rock song by Bob Dylan that first appeared in 1975 on his 15th album, Blood on the Tracks . Later it was also released as a single.
A live recording dated February 28, 1978 was released on the Dylan album At Budokan .
The song was first covered by Joan Baez on her 1975 album Diamonds & Rust and has since been reinterpreted by a variety of artists, including the Jerry Garcia Band on their 1991 live album Jerry Garcia Band and Run for the Roses (1982), Concrete Blonde on their 1994 release of Still in Hollywood , Sean Costello on his 2005 album of the same name, The Format on Listen to Bob Dylan: A Tribute (2005), Bryan Ferry on Dylanesque (2007), Jeff Tweedy (with alternative text based on a live Dylan recording) on the soundtrack of the film I'm Not There (2007), Stephen Fretwell on Man on the Roof (2007) as bonus track and Sarah Jarosz on Build Me Up from Bones (2013). Diana Krall interpreted the song on the 2012 donation tribute to Bob Dylan Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International . A version with German text was published by the Austrian artist Der Nino from Vienna on the EP "Adria" (2016) under the title May is over .
