Sinalepa (German Sinnalep ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the municipality of Haapsalu (until 2017: rural municipality Ridala ) in Lääne County in Estonia .

The place has twenty inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is fourteen kilometers southeast of the core city of Haapsalu.

The court of Sinalepa was first mentioned in 1688. Since 1765 at the latest it belonged to the noble Baltic German family Kursell . The last private owner before the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform in 1919 was Alexander von Kursell.

In 1939, members of the Red Army were quartered on the courtyard with its extensive park area , and they began building an airfield there. During their retreat after the German attack on the Soviet Union , the soldiers set all buildings on fire in 1941. Today only a few ruins remain.

Orthodox Church

In 1886, at the time of the Russification of Estonia , an Orthodox church was built in Mäemõisa ( Berghof or Düwel in German ) , which was later connected to Sinalepa . It is named after Saint Nicholas . The Orthodox parish was active until 1963. Today the building is in ruins.
