The place has 52 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located just under three kilometers southwest of the core town of Haapsalu. The Ungru oja stream flows through the village .

In 1923 a radio mast was built in Kiltsi. The two lighthouses of Paralepa are also on the present-day territory of the village .

Good from Kiltsi

The existence of a Bertold von Wittenfelde ( de Alba Curia ) is proven for 1323 . A vassal castle was probably built in the center of the manor during the 14th or 15th century. It was badly damaged during the Livonian War in the 16th century.

The Wittenhof was first mentioned in a document in 1513 . In 1523 it was recorded as Hof Wittenfeld . The direct Estonian translation Valgevälja comes from the German place name Weißenfeld , as the southern part of today's place is also called. Kiltsi, the Estonian-speaking name of the place, probably comes from Otto von Gilsen, who was the owner in the 16th century.

In the 17th century the former castle was redesigned into a two-story mansion in the Renaissance style. Medieval elements have been retained. In the 18th century, two elongated, single-storey side wings were added.

From 1765 to 1871 the farm was owned by the noble Baltic German family Knorring . Then he was bought by the doctor Carl Arthur Woldemar von Hunnius (1825-1893), son of the famous Haapsalu district doctor Carl Abraham Hunnius (1797-1851). Until 1939, the fifty hectare core of the property was owned by the Hunnius family as a rest yard .

After the Second World War , the property was used by the Red Army until 1991 . A fire in 1993 destroyed the manor house, of which only ruins can be seen today. The Renaissance-style main portal, which is unique in Estonia and adorned with a mascaron , fell victim to vandalism in 2000. The analog side portals in the vestibule were stolen in 2002.

The outbuildings were heavily redesigned by the Soviet Army. Most of them, too, are only in ruins.

In the area of the village is the Ungru Castle (German Lindenhof ).

The former Soviet military airfield of Paralepa ( Paralepa lennuväli ) is also located near Kiltsi .
