Later the place was in the hands of the Shatavahanas , then the Chalukya and Hoysala dynasties as well as the Vijayanagar empire, which was defeated in 1565 in the battle of Talikota against the combined forces of the Dekkan sultanates . Sindhanur later came to Hyderabad , which was a nominally independent princely state under British rule during colonial times . One year after Indian independence, Hyderabad was annexed by India in 1948. Through the States Reorganization Act , Sindhanur came in 1956 to the state of Mysore, which was created after the language borders of Kannada and renamed Karnataka in 1973 .
