Siniša Ubiparipović ( Cyrillic : Синиша Убипариповић) (born August 25, 1983 in Zenica , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Bosnian-Herzegovinian football player on the position of a central and defensive midfielder .

Career

Youth and amateur football

After Ubiparipović had fled to Belgrade , Serbia with his parents before the Bosnian War as a child , he came to the United States in 1999 .

His active football career began in 2000 when he was inducted into Mentor High School in Mentor , Ohio. There he played on the soccer team until 2001 and was the top scorer in high school in both years. With a total of 60 hits, Ubiparipović set a new school record. In 2002 he came to the University of Illinois at Chicago , where he had eight hits and nine assists in 20 games completed by the end of the year . Only one year later, in 2003, Ubiparipović moved to the University of Akron , where he was used as a redshirt freshman in just three games in his first year at the university . For the remainder of the season he had to pause due to an injury, which is why he only found his way back to the team as a sophomore the following year . As a sophomore, he played 18 games in 2004, in which he scored a total of two goals. In his third year, Ubiparipović completed 23 games, scored 17 goals and prepared seven. He also scored hat tricks and doubles in various tournaments and was considered one of the most outstanding players at the university and in the surrounding area. In 2006 he was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Year .

During his student days Ubiparipović moved in 2005 to the Cleveland Internationals in the USL Premier Development League , an amateur league. There he was used in two games, whereupon he transferred a year later within the league to the Chicago Fire Premier , where he played twelve games and scored three goals.

Club career

His professional career began on January 12, 2007, when he was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft as the 33rd pick to the New York Red Bulls . In the 2007 season Ubiparipović came to twelve league appearances, as well as two missions in the MLS Cup and one in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup . At the beginning of the 2008 season he was in the starting line-up of the New York Red Bulls, but after some ups and downs during the season he was eliminated from the starting line-up and instead had to be content with a place on the bench. After more or a few good games by the Red Bulls, the Bosnian made it back into the starting line-up for the last games of the playoffs.

Since joining the New York Red Bulls in 2007, Ubiparipović has scored two goals in 69 league games. During his engagement with the NYRB he played a game on loan for the Minnesota Thunder from the second-rate USL First Division in 2007 and scored a goal in the game.

On January 24, 2011, the New York Red Bulls announced that they would not want to extend Ubiparipović's contract for the 2011 season.

After three years at Montreal Impact , he moved back to the NASL at Ottawa Fury in 2014 .
