Mentor is a city in the north of the United States in the state of Ohio in Lake County .
It is located south of Lake Erie near Cleveland about 37 km from downtown. Mentor has 51,485 inhabitants (as of: 2005 census) on an area of 72.7 km².
history
Mentor has a National Historic Landmark , the James A. Garfield National Historic Site . From the porch of his Mentor home, James A. Garfield led the first Front Porch Campaign in American political history in the 1880 presidential election . 80 buildings and sites in the city are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of October 1, 2018).
