Woluwe-Saint-Lambert ( French ) or Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe ( Dutch ) is one of 19 municipalities in the bilingual Brussels-Capital Region in Belgium . The community has 56,660 inhabitants (January 1, 2019) on 7.2 square kilometers. The Woluwebach flows through it. The municipality is located in the east of the capital and borders on the Brussels municipalities Woluwe-Saint-Pierre / Sint-Pieters-Woluwe , Etterbeek , Schaerbeek / Schaarbeek and Evere as well as the Flemish municipality of Kraainem . The name of the municipality is derived from the Woluwe stream and the Catholic parish of St. Lambert, named after St. Lambert of Liège .

local community

Woluwe-Saint-Lambert / Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe is predominantly a municipality with a high proportion of foreigners, especially from EU countries. To the east of the municipality is the medical faculty of the Université catholique de Louvain . There are several restaurants and bars on campus, which are also popular with students from the nearby European School Woluwe . In addition, many high-tech companies, radio and TV stations (e.g. RTL) have settled in the community. Opened in 2006, Wolubillis is the community's new cultural center, with a theater that seats almost 500 people. Shops can be found on Avenue Georges Henri / Georges Henrilaan and in the Woluwe Shopping Center . Some of the main axes of the municipality are named after famous Belgian statesmen, such as B. Broqueville and Hymans .

The Linkedemühle (Lindekemale) on Woluwebach, first mentioned in 1129, is a special attraction of the community, as is the neoclassical Malouschloss 1776 and the Spatzenhof Hof ter Musschen near the brook. The Romanesque St. Lamberti's church with tower from the 12th century and the parish hall built in the Art Deco style of the 1930s are further architectural features.

The underground line 1 connects the community with seven train stations ( Josephine-Charlotte, Gribaumont, Tomberg, Roodebeek, Vandervelde, Alma and Kraainem / Crainhem ).

Town twinning

Woluwe-Saint-Lambert / Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe has two twin cities, Meudon ( France ) since 1958 and M'Bazi ( Rwanda ) since 1970.
