The Siren was a RoPax ship that was used on the Gedser  - Travemünde ferry line for several years .

history

The ship was ordered on November 10, 1973 by the Danish ferry company Det Forenede Dampskibs-Selskab from Helsingør Skibsværft og Maskinbyggeri in Helsingør as a RoRo cargo ferry with facilities for 12 passengers. The keel of the yard's hull number 408 was laid on July 14th, 1975 and the launch under the name of Dana Agricola took place on February 9th, 1976. For cargo handling, the ship received a stern ramp , a bow visor and a gantry crane with 25 tons lifting capacity.

Two days after delivery on July 1, 1976, the ship began her maiden voyage from Esbjerg to Great Britain and on July 10, 1976 the ship was christened in Esbjerg . Around two months later, on September 14, 1976, the ship began an 18-month charter for the German steamship company "Hansa" under the name Drachenfels for the service between ports on the US east coast and the Persian Gulf . The ferry was returned on November 7, 1977 and then remained in the service of the client for around eight years under the name Dana Hafnia . During this time she was used on liner services to Helsingborg , Copenhagen , Immingham and Felixstowe and was chartered out to other shipping companies at times.

The ship was then sold to the Molslinjen shipping company in Esbjerg on a short-term DFDS return charter . The ship passed this on to the shipping company Østersøens Færgefart on March 21, 1986 . From March 24 to May 28, 1986, the Ro-Ro cargo ferry at the Nobiskrug shipyard in Rendsburg was converted into a Ro-Pax ferry with 63 cabins and facilities for 600 passengers for the ferry service between Gedser and Travemünde. An additional ramp was also installed on the starboard side in front of the superstructure. After completion, the ferry was transferred to the GT-Link shipping company and registered under the new name Gedser in Nassau . In the same year it was renamed Gedser Link .

In December 1989 the Ticket Shipping Company from Limassol acquired the ship for 15 million US dollars, after which it remained in service under the name Venus until 2007 for the Ventouris Group from Piraeus in the Mediterranean . In 2007 the operator of the ship changed one last time and after an intermediate sale , the ship finally went to Indian abandoners in 2010, who stranded the Siren on March 31, 2010 for scrapping in Alang .
