Sistar (kor .: 씨스 타) was a four-member girl group from South Korea , which was founded in 2010 by the talent agency Starship Entertainment. The group consisted of the band leader Hyolyn, Bora, Soyou and Dasom. Her debut album So Cool was released on August 9, 2011. The second album Give It to Me was released on June 11, 2013. Her most successful songs include So Cool , Alone , Touch My Body , Loving U and Give It to Me . Their fourth single, So Cool , reached number one on the Billboard Korea K-Pop Hot 100 Singles Chart.

history

2010–2012: Debut and successes with So Cool , Alone and Loving U

Sistar started their group activities in early 2010 with advertisements and photo shoots. The group made their debut with the single Push Push on June 3, 2010. They made their first appearance on June 4, 2010 on Music Bank and continued their promotion until July 26, 2010.

On August 25, 2010, the release of the second single, Shady Girl . Kim Hee-chul from Super Junior made a guest appearance in the accompanying music video . The group received a lot of media attention through a video recorded by a fan of a performance at the Let's Start Sharing Concert on August 28, 2010. During the performance, Bora slipped and the other members stopped singing to help her get back on her feet . Bora broke her thumb in the fall. The video was shown on G4's online program Attack of the Show and on RTL Explosiv , among others .

On September 14th 2010 Sistar were invited to the Hallyu Music Festival in Japan to perform there as the only K-Pop girl group. On October 10, 2010, they appeared on the Teen Superstar show in Thailand . In November they released their third single How Dare You . On December 9, 2010, Sistar won the Newcomer Award at the Golden Disk Awards . On December 27, 2010, they won Music Bank 's first award on a music show for How Dare You .

On April 27, 2011 the founding of the subgroup Sistar19, consisting of the members Hyolyn and Bora, was announced. Her debut single Ma Boy was released on May 3, 2011. Sistar19 made their first appearance on May 5th and continued their promotion throughout the month. On August 9, 2011, their first studio album, So Cool , was released. So Cool was the first number one hit on the Billboard Korea K-Pop Hot 100 chart after starting on August 25, 2011. On September 11, 2011, Sistar won their first Mutizen Award at Inkigayo .

At the beginning of April it was announced that their comeback appearance with So Cool will be broadcast in 41 countries. Their first mini album, Alone , was released on April 12, 2012 and contained six songs produced by Brave Brothers. Her second EP, Loving U , was released on June 28, 2012. The second EP included the title song Loving U produced by Duble Sidekick, the new song Holiday and remixes of past hits.

2013–2015: Give It to Me , summer hits and solo / duo activities

Sistar19 released their first EP, Gone Not Around Any Longer , and the title track of the same name on January 31, 2013. Their record label Starship Entertainment announced Sistar's return for mid-June on May 16, 2013. With a further confirmation on June 2, 2013, the label announced that Sistar would make their comeback with their second studio album. On June 3, 2013, teaser photos of Bora and Dasom were released. The following day teaser photos were taken by all band members to give it to me published and it was announced the Give It to Me with a Moulin Rouge theme will be. The video teaser for Give It to Me was released on June 6, 2013. The second studio album, Give It to Me , was released on June 11, 2013 along with the title track of the same name. The album reached number four on the Gaon Music Charts . On October 26, 2013, Sistar competed for South Korea at the ABU TV Song Festival 2013 in Hanoi , Vietnam with Give It to Me . Three other singles: The Way You Make Me Melt , Crying and Bad Boy and two other promotional singles were also released to promote the album. On November 26th 2013 Hyolyn released her first studio album Love & Hate which reached number five on the Gaon Charts.

On June 5, 2014, Sistar's record label, Starship Entertainment, announced on Newsen that the group is currently working on a new album and will have their comeback in early July. On July 21st, Sistar released their third EP, Touch N Move , along with the theme song Touch My Body . The EP was very successful commercially, reaching number two and eighth on the Gaon Charts and the Billboard US World Albums Charts . At the end of July, the single Naughty Hands was released. Shortly after promoting Touch My Body , Sistar released their fourth EP Sweet & Sour on August 26, 2014 as a summer special . The EP contained the two new songs I Swear and Hold on Tight and four remixes of the singles Loving U , Gone Not Around Any Longer , Give It to Me and Touch My Body . In December they won the Best Female Group Award at the 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards .

On June 22, 2015, Sistar released their fifth EP, Shake It , along with the theme song of the same name. Shake It reached number three on the Gaon Charts . At the end of June the two new singles Shake it and Don't Be Such a Baby were released. In August it was announced that Hyolyn would appear in the second season of Unpretty Rapstar . On August 1, 2015, Sistar performed at KCON 2015 in Los Angeles , California . On August 14, 2015, they performed on the 70th Independence Day of the Republic of Korea , their home country. On September 7th, 2015 Hyolyn released the single The Wall Destroyer together with Eluphant member, Keebee. On September 22nd, 2015 Soyou released the single Lean on Me in collaboration with the singer Kwon Jeong Yeol from the band 10cm .

2016–2017: Insane Love , Lonely and Dissolution

On May 3rd, 2016 it was announced that Sistar would make their comeback in June with an EP, the title track of which was produced by Black Eyed Pilseung. On June 4, 2016, Sistar and her fans celebrated the band's sixth birthday. On June 10th, a collaboration between Sistar and DJ Soda was released. On June 14, 2016 it was announced that the title of their fourth EP would be called I Like That . The live countdown for the release of the EP and the music video began on June 20, 2016. Starship Entertainment released the music videos for I Like That and Insane Love on June 20, 2016 on their official YouTube channel.

In May 2017, Sistar posted a teaser photo that announced that they would make their comeback in late May. On May 22, 2017, Starship Entertainment announced that Sistar would make their last comeback with this project and that they would split up after their seven-year career as a band. Her last song entitled Lonely , composed by Black Eyed Pilseung, was released on May 31, 2017. All band members wrote their own personal farewell letters confirming their eventual breakup.

The group performed on four major music shows with their biggest hits, Touch My Body , Shake It , Loving U , I Swear and their latest song, Lonely . They made their last appearance on Inkigayo on June 4, 2017 and then officially broke up.

Subgroup

Sistar's subgroup, Sistar19 , made their debut in 2011 with band members Hyolyn and Bora. Her first single, Ma Boy, was released in May 2011. In January 2013 the single Gone Not Around Any Longer followed along with the EP of the same name.
