The Sculpture Park Artpark is a 5,000 m² sculpture park in the Makart district in Linz , which was designed by 22 artists.

location

The sculpture park is an inner-city sculpture garden. It is located on the roof of the Lenaupark City shopping and service center in the Makartviertel , a statistical district of Lustenau . It is the only cultural institution in the Lenaupark district. The Lenaupark district development project, with a project area of 43,000 m², is the largest inner-city project in Austria outside of Vienna .

History and conception

The Lenaupark regional development project was launched in 2004 for the 43,000 m² area around the former freight station. A year later, the Lenaupark City shopping and service center was opened. The sculptor and photographer Manfred Kielnhofer, who lived nearby, had the idea of adding a cultural contribution to the district. He gathered a few artist colleagues around him and founded the Artpark , which aims to stimulate the cultural life of this district, which is otherwise dominated by apartments, offices and commercial and service companies. The opening took place in 2006, and since then the open-air sculpture garden has been expanded with a few sculptures every year .

In 2006, the integration globe was created on site with a diameter of 12.5 meters. The large installation weighs 24 tons and consists of a steel frame and 580 m² of linen fabric.

In 2009, the year of the European Capital of Culture, the project to open the sculpture garden was rejected. The broadcaster LT1 dedicated a contribution with five artist interviews to the opening of the sculpture park.

Works by Jonathan Borofsky , dEmo ( Eladio de Mora ), Manfred Kielnhofer , Robert Mittringer , Arnold Pichler , Erwin Reiter , Martina Schettina , Manfred Schöller , Pinuccio Sciola and Gerhard Wünsche can be seen, among others. The sculpture park owns several sculptures by the artist Willi Kern , who died in 2009 , including an oversized Venus von Willendorf , made from thousands of 1 Schilling coins.

The realization of this sculpture garden came about with the help of sponsors, loans from artists and curators as well as funding from the state of Upper Austria and the city of Linz. The Artpark association is responsible for the care .
