Sleaford Mods is an English electro punk - duo from Nottingham , consisting of singer / rapper Jason Williamson and music producer Andrew Robert Lindsay Fearn. Their music is described as a mixture of post-punk , minimal electro and hip-hop with political texts performed in the dialect of the East Midlands .

Band history

Jason Williamson spent his youth on a farm and from 2007 devoted himself mainly to music. His influences include various mod bands , Rave , The Smiths , Guns N 'Roses , Wu-Tang Clan , as well as Black Metal . He started rapping and was advised to try samples from Roni Size . He teamed up with Simon Parfrement, and together they started the project under the band name That's Shit, Try Harder . After a while the name was changed to Sleaford Mods, a tribute to the town of Sleaford , where Williamson got to know the mod subculture.

The duo signed with A52 Sounds and recorded three indie albums there before moving to Deadly Beefburger Records in 2011. There the 2011 album SPECTER was released. In 2012 Parfrement got out, but stayed with the band as photographer and media manager . Andrew Fearn came for him. After their first joint album Wank , the band switched to the Harbinger Sound label . There the band made their breakthrough with the 2013 album Austerity Dogs . Divide and Exit followed in 2014 .

Together with The Prodigy , Sleaford Mods recorded the track Ibiza in 2014 , which was published on Prodigy's 2015 work The Day Is My Enemy . The Leftfield album Alternative Light Source (2015) also includes a collaboration with the Sleaford Mods. The piece is entitled Head and Shoulders .

In July 2015 the album Key Markets was released . The album English Tapas was released in March 2017.

style

While Williamson concentrated exclusively on the vocals, Parfrement and later Fearn took care of the instrumental. The trademark of the band minimum are lo-fi - drum beats and pounding bass , to the disillusioned and angry lyrics of Williamson, presented in wide East Midlands dialect . The music is often compared by the press to The Fall and The Streets , the hateful lyrics to the poet John Cooper Clarke .
