Sleeping Gypsy is a pop jazz album recorded in 1977 by Michael Franks . With the album, Franks, who wrote all the songs himself, created a mixture of jazz, pop, soul and bossa nova . It is his third album under his own name.
The album was produced by Tommy LiPuma , who had the tracks arranged by Claus Ogerman and brought Franks together with well-known jazz musicians such as Michael Brecker , David Sanborn and Joe Sample of the Crusaders .
background
The CD begins with The Lady Wants to Know and contains references to jazz legends John Coltrane and Miles Davis ( Daddy's Just Like Coltrane, Baby's Just Like Miles ). At Bwana-He no Home is a story that occurred when Frank was not home and one of his friends, Dan Hicks, caller abwimmelte with these words.
With Down in Brazil and Antonio's Song (The Rainbow) , a tribute to the Brazilian composer Antônio Carlos Jobim , Franks followed the example of Stan Getz , who a decade earlier made Brazilian rhythms known to a large audience.
The pianist Joe Sample composed the music for Chain Reaction , the drummer John Guerin the music for Don't Be Blue .
