Geographical location

Sobatschjesee is located around 275 km north of the Arctic Circle in the western part of the Putorana Mountains (max. 1701  m ). There are no settlements either by the lake or in its vicinity, but in some places there are isbas , traditional Russian wooden huts.

The surrounding mountains are up to 1264  m high in the eastern lake area and reach a maximum height of 1551  m east of the lake in its catchment area ; The mountain parts near the lake include the northern Dynkengda Mountains (up to 1177  m or further east up to 1259  m ) and the western Iman Mountains (up to 1135  m ). While the lake is fed by the Choronen in the east and the Nakma in the west- south- west as well as numerous mountain streams, the Muksun at its north-west end is its only drain, whose water ultimately flows over the distant Pyassina to the Kara Sea (part of the Arctic Ocean ).

The lake, which extends approximately in an east-northeast-west-southwest direction, which is about 63  m high, is around 45 km long and up to 4 km wide in the west-south-west . Its catchment area is around 2,520 km².

In the catchment area of the Sobatschje lake in the southwest lies the Nakomjakensee with its neighboring lake Toneljsee as well as many small lakes and rivers. Outside of this area, below the lake, there is a neighboring lake, the Glubokojesee, which is fed by the Muksun .

Climate, flora and fauna

The region of Lake Sobachy lies in the area of permafrost . The lake is covered by ice from the beginning of October to the end of June or the beginning of July every year . Boreal coniferous forests (taiga) thrive on its banks and tundra with mosses and lichens predominate on the many plateau-like mountains . Perch and salmon fish live in the fish-rich lake .
