Sofron Stefan Mudry OSBM (born November 27, 1923 in Zolochiv ; † October 31, 2014 ) was Bishop of Ivano-Frankivsk .

Life

Sofron Stefan Mudry joined the Basilian religious order . The Apostolic Visitator of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Western Europe and South America , Ivan Bucko , ordained him a priest on December 25, 1958 . From 1974 to 1994 he was rector of the Pontifical Ukrainian College in Rome .

On November 24, 1995, he was elected Coadjutor Bishop of Ivano-Frankivsk by the Holy Synod . Pope John Paul II confirmed the election on March 2nd next year. The secretary of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches, Miroslav Stefan Marusyn , gave him episcopal ordination on May 12 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were Stephen Sulyk , Archbishop of Philadelphia , and Sofron Dmyterko OSBM, auxiliary bishop in Ivano-Frankivsk .

After Sofron Dmyterko's retirement , Sofron Stefan Mudry succeeded him on November 7, 1997 as Bishop of Ivano-Frankivsk. On June 2, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
