Softball Bundesliga 2009

The German Softball Championship 2009 began on 18 April 2009 with the opening day of the Softball League North and a day later with the opening day of the Bundesliga South and to the Final Four tournament on 19 and 20 September 2009 in Ratingen end . The Hamburg Knights start the season as defending champions .

Regular season

The regular season was played as a double round tournament , so that each team played against every other team both at home and away. Two games were played on one day as a so-called double header , which means that both teams faced each other four times. The four best-placed teams of the regular season played in the play-offs for the championship, the worse-placed teams in the play-downs for non-relegation.

1. Bundesliga North

Only five teams competed in the 1st Bundesliga North, so the teams played not just twice but three times against each other. Thus, each team played a total of 24 games and thus just as many as the teams from the southern season. As in the previous year, due to this situation, the play-downs were waived and all teams except the Holm Westend 69ers took part in the play-offs.

The Brauweiler Raging Abbots secured the title of northern champion tied ahead of the Neunkirchen Nightmares , with the Nightmares missing only one run to the title. The Hamburg Knights followed in third place with just one victory ahead of the Wesseling Vermins . The Holm Westend 69ers could only win one victory in the entire season against the winner Brauweiler Raging Abbots and were thus beaten last.

1st Bundesliga South

As in the previous year, the Mannheim Tornados secured the southern championship before the Haar Disciples . The other play-off places also went to the same teams as in the previous year, namely the Herrenberg Wanderers and the Freising Grizzlies , just behind the Karlsruhe Cougars had to make the play-downs. They were accompanied by the Augsburg Dirty Slugs and the severed Darmstadt Rockets .

Play-downs

Play-downs North

As in the previous year, there were no play-downs in the north, as only 5 teams had participated in the Bundesliga, so the season of the Holm Westend 69ers ended after the regular season.

Playdowns South

The play-downs in the south will be played from August 8-22, 2008 in a group of three between the Karlsruhe Cougars, the Augsburg Dirty Slugs and the Darmstadt Rockets. Since each team only played one double header against the other two teams, it was already clear before the start of the round that the Darmstadt Rockets would occupy the last place and thus the relegation place.

Final tournament

The final tournament took place on September 19 and 20, 2009 in Ratingen at the Ratingen Goose Necks . The group stage in the everyone-versus-everyone mode was played on Saturdays, while the semi-finals and the final were played on Sundays. The games were broadcast via live ticker and also as a stream on the Internet.

Group stage

On Saturdays, the group games were played on two fields in parallel. Despite a defeat against the Brauweiler Raging Abbots, who finished last and were eliminated after the first day, the Neunkirchen Nightmares were able to secure victory in the group phase and thus direct access to the final. Second came the Mannheim Tornados, who were able to confidently win their further games after an opening defeat against Neunkirchen. Third place was the Haar Disciples, tied with Brauweiler.

Finals

The finals were played on Sundays and began in the morning with the semi-finals of the two participants from the Bundesliga Süd, in which the Mannheim Tornados were able to prevail with 10: 1 due to an outstanding fourth inning in which they were able to score nine runs . The Mannheimers moved into the final of the German championship against the Neunkirchen Nightmares, last year's runner-up. The Nightmares qualified directly for the finals by taking first place in the group phase.

The final was played between the Neunkirchen Nightmares and the Mannheim Tornados, which the Mannheim women won 5: 1 and thus became German softball champions in 2009.
