The German Softball Bundesliga 2018 was the 20th season of the Softball Bundesliga . Regular time began on April 7th and lasted until August 19th. Then the German champions were determined in the play-offs. The Mannheim Tornados started the season as defending champions . With the rise of the Bonn Capitals , the number of teams increased to 11.
Regular season
The regular season was played as a round-robin tournament, with three rounds being played. Each team competed against each other team at least once at home and away. On each match day, two games were played as a double header , which means that two teams faced each other six times. Thus, the teams in the North Division had 24 season games, the 30th in the South Division.
Play-offs
In the play-offs, the first placed from one division competed against the fourth placed and the second placed against the third placed from the other division in the best-of-three mode . The winners met in the semi-finals in the best-of-five mode and determined the participants in the final, which was also played as the best-of-five.
Germany Cup
The Germany Cup was played parallel to the play-offs. It served to determine the second European Cup participant next to the master. Except for the final game, the rounds were played in best-of-three series. In the first round, the fifth placed against the sixth placed of the other division. In the second round, the losers of the quarter-finals of the play-offs competed against each other. In the third round, the winners of the second round met the winners of the first round. The winners of the third round played in the fourth round against the losers of the semi-finals of the play-offs. The winners of this round determined the final opponent of the loser of the play-off final in the fifth round.
