The German Softball Bundesliga 2017 was the 19th season of the Softball Bundesliga . Regular time began on April 22nd and lasted until August 27th. Then the German champions were determined in the play-offs. The Mannheim Tornados started the season as defending champions . With the rise of the Augsburg Dirty Slugs and the Buchbinder Legionaries , the number of teams increased to 10.
Regular season
The regular season was played as a round-robin tournament, with the North Division playing four rounds and the South Division three rounds. Each team competed against each other team at least once at home and away. Two games were played as a double header on each day of the match , making two teams face each other eight or six times. Thus, the teams in the North Division had 24 season games, the 30th in the South Division.
Play-offs
In the play-offs in the quarter-finals, the runners-up from one division competed against the third-placed runners from the other division in best-of-three mode . In the semifinals, the winners met the first placed in the preliminary round and determined the participants in the final in the best-of-five mode, which was also played out as the best-of-five.
Germany Cup
The Germany Cup was played parallel to the play-offs. Except for the final game, the rounds were played in best-of-three series. In the first round, the fourth placed in the North Division played against the sixth placed in the South Division and the fourth against the fifth placed in the South Division. The winners of the first round played against the losers of the quarter-finals in the second round. In the third round, the winners of the second round met the losers of the semi-finals. The winner of this round determined the final opponent of the loser of the play-off final in the fourth round.
