The Sokolnik is a mountain in the western Silesian ridge of the Giant Mountains on the Czech-Polish border.

location

Valley locations are:

The summit of Sokolnik, which can be translated as "falconer", lies between the hoop-bearer (Polish Szrenica ) in the west and the Veilchenstein (Polish Łabski Szczyt , Czech Violík ) in the east. In the so-called Szrenica hole ( Kocioł Szrenicki ), a Nivationsnische between the eastern slope of the hoop carrier and the northern slope probably during the last ice age has arisen is a vast wetland. The south and south-west slopes fall steeply to the Mummelwiese and into the valley of the Velka Mumlava , the left source stream of the Mumlava ( Mummel ). Below the southeast slope extends a plateau, the Labská louka (Polish Łabska Łąka , German Elbe meadow ).

Hydrology

The Elbe meadow is seen as the source area of the Elbe , the water is symbolically collected from a multitude of small source streams on the plateau above the Labská Bouda ( Elbfallbaude ) in a water hole set with stones. The wet meadow on the northern slope is also criss-crossed by many small, nameless water veins that flow together to form the Szrenicka Potok . This first takes its way north, then at the lower end of the frost carrier hole to the northeast, to flow into the Kochel (Polish Szklarka ) at Szklarska Poręba at an altitude of 585 m above sea level .

Flora and fauna

The summit is forestless and covered by debris fields. The flora corresponds to the subalpine vegetation level with lichens, bristle grass and mountain pines as the predominant plants. In the lower elevations on the northern slope, mountain coniferous forest , which consists mainly of spruce, grows .

The subpolar climatic conditions at the summit with low temperatures and high wind speeds only allow herbivorous bugs, spiders and wood-dwelling beetles to settle here permanently. However, the insects are food for various bird species such as B. Alpenbraunelle , mountain pipit or redtail . In the lower elevations, in addition to other bird species, mammals such as stone marten and pine marten (Martes martes) find an adequate habitat.

Tourism and nature protection

Sokolnik lies on the territory of two national parks. In Poland in the Karkonoski Park Narodowy (KPN) and in the Czech Republic in the Krkonošský národní park (KRNAP). In addition to extensive species protection, this means that the paved paths must not be left. The hiking trails are marked:
- The path of Polish-Czech friendship (Kammweg) runs north of the summit, which runs past the rock formations Trzy Świnki ( Saussteine ) and Twarożnik (German quark stones , Czech Tvarožník ) in the west and continues to the east Veilchenstein leads.
-
Marked in green, the snow pit path goes between the two rock groups from the Polish side over the Mokra Przełęcz ( Nasser Sattel ), past the Wosseckerbaude ( Vosecká bouda ) through the Mummelgrund ( Mummelwiese , Czech: Mumlavské Louka ) to the Czech side.
- Marked in yellow, shortly after the summit, another hiking trail crosses the Kammweg in an easterly direction. On the left it leads over the Schronisko PTTK Pod Łabskim Szczytem ( Old Silesian Baude ) to Schreiberhau; on the right it goes to the source of the Elbe and the Elbe Falls.
